Responsible Drinking
At Dram Tales, we celebrate whiskey as a craft to be appreciated, not abused. Responsible drinking is at the heart of everything we do.
Our Commitment
Dram Tales promotes mindful, responsible whiskey appreciation. We encourage our community to enjoy spirits in moderation and never to drink and drive.
Guidelines for Responsible Enjoyment
Quality Over Quantity
Whiskey appreciation is about savoring the experience, not consuming large quantities. Take time to nose, taste, and appreciate each dram. Small pours allow you to enjoy multiple expressions while remaining in control.
Know Your Limits
Everyone's tolerance is different. Pay attention to how alcohol affects you and respect your personal limits. It's perfectly acceptable to spit during tastings or to use smaller sample sizes.
Never Drink and Drive
This should go without saying, but it bears repeating: never drive after drinking. Plan ahead with designated drivers, ride-sharing, or public transportation. Your safety and the safety of others always comes first.
Stay Hydrated and Eat
Drink water between drams and never taste on an empty stomach. Food helps slow alcohol absorption and can enhance the tasting experience.
Respect Non-Drinkers
Not everyone drinks alcohol, and that's completely fine. Never pressure anyone to drink. Our community welcomes collectors and enthusiasts of all kinds.
Legal Drinking Age
All Dram Tales members must be of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction (21+ in the United States). We take age verification seriously and will terminate accounts that violate this policy.
Tasting Best Practices
Limit your session: Even professionals limit tastings to 4-6 expressions to maintain palate clarity and judgment.
Use proper glassware: Smaller glasses (Glencairn, copita) naturally encourage smaller pours designed for nosing and tasting.
Consider spitting: Professional tasters often spit to evaluate more spirits without impairment. There's no shame in this during serious tastings.
Take breaks: Space out your tastings and give yourself time between drams.
